The House of Representatives has called for a thorough investigation into the frequent killings and destruction of property in different communities of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The resolution was sequel to the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance brought on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary by a member of the House from Zamfara State, Hassan Shinkafi.
Presenting the motion, the lawmaker said that the attack came at a period citizens were battling with the hardship in the land occasioned by the economic downturn.
He said the affected communities had lost many shops, houses motorcycles, foodstuffs among others worth hundreds of million and two police officers attached to Zurmi Police a Divisional headquarters.
Adopting the motion, the House urged the Inspector General of Police to set up a tactical team to unmask the mystery behind the incessant attacks and report back to the House in two weeks.
The House also urged the National Emergency Management Agency to urgently come to the rescue of the affected persons with relief materials.
This is just as the House also urged the Federal Government to deploy more military personnel to the affected areas to avert any further occurrences.
The House further urged the Committee on Defence, Police Affairs, Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance to the directive.
The Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, inaugurated a 2,969-man State Community Protection Guards to tackle the insecurity challenges affecting the state in February.
Speaking during the launching of the security guards in a colourful ceremony in Gusau, Lawal said his administration was poised to bring an end to banditry in the state.
He charged members of the protection guard to discharge their duties diligently to ensure the success of the initiative
