The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, on Monday, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to submit documents on the Value Added Taxes (VAT) remitted by the REMITA between 2015 and 2022.
The committee chaired by Rep. Bamidele Salam issued the notice while addressing FIRS delegation on the investigation of revenue leakages through Remita platforms.
It was recalled that on 28th March 2024, the Committee threatened the Chairman, of Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS), Mr. Zacch Adedeji for refusing to honour the committee’s invitation on five occasions.
According to the chairman, the committee sent invitation letters to FIRS on 18th October, 31st October, 9th November, 20th November 2023, and 12th January, 2024 respectively.
According to the request letter sent to the Service, “The service is to submit a comprehensive schedule showing total gross revenue generated/collected and net revenue generated/collected by all MDAs through Remita platforms from 2015 to 2022 after deduction of charges/commission by the third parties (CBN-License issuer, Bank processor, and Remita owner
Memorandum of understanding/standard operating procedure and service level agreement signed by all involved parties.

Percentage/Sharing ratio of Commissions/charges/fees among CBN, Banks, and SystemSpecs and detailed records of the total fees/charges/Commissions realized by Banks, CBN and Remita.”
The FIRS chairman, Mr. Zacch Adedeji represented by the Coordinating Director, Shettima Tamadi, and other staff apologized for presenting incomplete documents.
The Committee unanimously gave the service a 14-day ultimatum to present the aforementioned requested document and the full document of the Values Added Tax (VAT) remitted by Remita from 2015 to 2022.
FIRS is also expected to respond to audit query bothering on failure to deduct statutory taxes from contractor’s fees worth N4,264,099.30.
In the same vein, FIRS is to clear air on audit query on irregular payment of Duty Tour allowances to Staff without proper description of purpose to the tune of N21.300 million.
Auditor General also queried FIRS over ‘Non-compliance to limit on cost of meals and refreshment during official meeting to the tune of N840,234,099.50.
The Committee had earlier requested for
