Senators from the Northern part of the country have appealed for calm over the move by the Bola Tinubu administration to relocate certain federal agencies from the Federal Capital Territory to Lagos.
While certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria will be relocated, the headquarters of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is equally listed for relocation to Lagos.
Arewa Consultative Forum has since expressed dissafection over President Tinubu approval of the relocation, TRIBUNE ONLINE reported.
National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Professor Muhammad Baba, in a statement described the move as a deliberate plot against the Northern region.
Senator Representing Kano South Senatorial District and spokesperson of the Forum, Suleiman Sumaila, in a statement declared that the Forum was “committed and addressing the concerns and feelings of our constituents regarding certain decisions and policies put forth by the federal government – lopsidedness in the distribution and allocation of resources in the 2024 budget, relocation of some federal agencies from Abuja to Lagos.”
The Forum assured Northerners that it would soon open discussion with the Tinubu administration towards seeking “an amicable resolution to these pressing issues, within the confines of our constitution and existing laws.”
The statement reads in part: “First and foremost, let us assure our constituents that we have taken their concerns seriously and are actively engaging with our colleagues in order to address these matters effectively.
