In a bid to alleviate poverty and empower the underprivileged, Dawah Front of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Amir Islamic Foundation, has distributed items worth N11.5 million to 52 individuals in Ogun State.
The event, which took place at the Egba Muslim Central Mosque in Abeokuta, the state capital, formed part of the 2025 Zakat exercise of DFN. Items distributed during the programme included sewing machines, generators, grinding machines, industrial machines, freezers, and other essentials.
Chairman of the Dawah Front of Nigeria Zakat Committee, Alhaji Surajudeen Fashola, explained that the beneficiaries were selected from a pool of 82 applications submitted by individuals with physical challenges, students, and business owners seeking empowerment.
He emphasised the organisation’s mission to reduce poverty among Muslims in the state.
He stated: “Looking at the categories of people that applied, we also have students to whom we gave materials to enable them to resume school. Some people are into businesses and want to uplift their enterprises. So, we considered all these categories. We also have individuals who don’t have husbands and want to start something meaningful. We came to their rescue with support.”
Also speaking at the event, Deputy National Coordinator of the Dawah Front of Nigeria, Professor Shariffdeen Adewuyi, described the ceremony as a remarkable day, highlighting that Zakat has been a regular practice of the organisation.
According to him, the exercise was particularly significant because the Amir Zakat Foundation partnered with them for its implementation.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, adding that they should strive to become donors in the future.
He remarked: “We advise them to use everything they have received for the intended purpose, and, of course, rather than remaining beneficiaries of Zakat, they should also aim to become donors. This is achievable if they use the items given to them responsibly.”
In his remarks, the Chapter Coordinator, Dr Samsudeen Ayanwale, represented by the Assistant Coordinator, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Maku, also urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items responsibly in ways that would attract Allah’s blessings so that they can eventually become Zakat donors themselves.
One of the beneficiaries, Alabi Fathia, who received industrial machines, prayed for Allah’s continuous blessings and upliftment for the donor.
