The Police Service Commission(PSC), said it has concluded plans to introduce written examinations as a requirement for promotion in the Nigeria Police Force.
It has also declared its readiness to eradicate corruption in Police Recruitment, Promotion and Discipline.
The development according to the PSC, chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, is to ensure quality and improved capacity in personnel management within the Force.
ARUGUNGU, made this known when he received a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Mr. Paul Turay.
PSC head of press and information ikechukwu Ani, in a statement, said The team was at the Commission to brief the new leadership on existing engagements and partnerships between the two organizations and to extract the Commission’s commitment to sustaining ongoing programs.
The PSC Chairman while appealing for the continued support of the UNDP to enable the Commission effectively take control of its powers to appoint, promote, and discipline officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, pledged the Commission’s commitment to sustaining and advancing all existing and ongoing programs funded by the UNDP, including a portal for police recruitment, promotion, and discipline.
The statement added that that Argungu, who led DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Honourable Commissioner, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, to the meeting, assured that the new leadership would leverage the partnership with the UNDP and its expected benefits, such as the portal, to reduce and, if possible, eliminate corruption in police recruitment, promotion, and discipline.
The PSC Chairman assured that the new team was committed to bringing positive innovation to the Commission, stressing that the Commission must align with the 21st century, driven by information technology.
In his address, the leader of the UNDP delegation, Mr. Paul Turay, who congratulated the new PSC leadership, said they were at the Commission to reinforce existing engagements and partnerships.
He said the visit was to ensure continuity and sustainability of the partnership programs, to increase capacity within the Commission, and assured that the UNDP would continue to engage and partner with the Commission on all ongoing programs and projects.
