Chief Security Officer of the University of Ibadan (UI), Victor Fadebiyi, has revealed reason two of its students, Aduwo Ayodele and Olajide Olawale were arrested on Monday.
The duo, TRIBUNE ONLINE gathered, were arrested in the school premises by Oyo Police Command.
“The police said they were inviting them but I am trying to go to the headquarters now to see what can be done to have them back,” the CSO told TRIBUNE ONLINE.
When asked whether he knew the reason they were arrested, he said, “The school is closed and they are supposed to go home but they are still organising meetings and threatening fire and brimstone. There was a protest here and the school decided to go on break and that everybody should vacate the campus. They are trying to make the campus ungovernable.”
The management earlier had issued a directive last Saturday to all students to leave campus before 2 pm the same day in the wake of the students’ resilient civil demonstration, which started on Thursday, August 29, over the hike in school fees, which was approved by the governing council last Friday.
After the release of the internal memorandum of the imminent campus vacation, some students took to the streets again on Saturday, August 31, showing their grievances concerning the order, and later held a congress in which they had the resolution that they would not leave the campus until their demands were met.
