Protest over allegations of land-grabbing in Igbesa sponsored – Free Commerce Zone

The Ogun-Guangdong Free Commerce Zone has declared the current protest staged by some members of Igbesa City Landowners’ Affiliation as a sponsored one.

It acknowledged that the protest was sponsored by some parts throughout the group.

Arogidigba International Journal gathered that some members of Igbesa City Landowners’ Affiliation just lately staged a protest over alleged land encroachment by the zone.

However the free commerce zone in its response signed by its spokesman, Timilehin Ajagunna, described the allegations as unfaithful.

The free commerce zone in an announcement signed by its spokesperson, vehemently refuted the allegations.

He acknowledged that the protest was orchestrated by sure entities with ulterior motives throughout the Igbesa group.

Ajagunna stated that the institution of the zone dated again to the tenure of the previous governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniels, who, in 2007, signed a Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) masking a land space of 2000.407 hectares.

“Our response comes within the wake of the protest and the sponsored media publications by some unscrupulous land grabbers throughout the Igbesa group.

“For the document, the Ogun-Guangdong Free Commerce Zone, Igbesa, Ado-Odo Ota, Ogun State, is a joint partnership funding between the Ogun State authorities and Chinese language traders. The institution of the zone dates again to the tenure of the previous governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniels, who, in 2007, signed a Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) masking a land space of 2000.407 hectares.

“It’s pertinent to notice that this land has been underneath authorities acquisition since 1977. By 2008, the Zone was formally commissioned, resulting in the institution of a number of overseas firms contributing considerably to regional financial growth.

“Quite a few public notices by way of radio jingles, newspaper caveat emptor bulletins, city corridor conferences, and different platforms have been utilized by the state authorities to tell and educate most of the people, particularly the host communities, concerning the zone’s operations and developments.

“Regrettably, the sponsors of this protest are people with a infamous historical past of instigating social dysfunction and are routine land grabbers. In a bid to handle the longstanding land dispute in Igbesa, Ogun State, the Lawyer Normal and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Shina Ogungbade, orchestrated a peaceable assembly on August 11, 2023.

“This gathering concerned key stakeholders, together with the Solicitor Normal, Barrister Segun Olaotan, Surveyor Normal Ebenezer Oladele Ewulo, and the Commander of Ogun State Job Pressure, ACP Mustapha Aderemi Akeem, alongside different senior employees members from the Ministry of Justice.

“The assembly introduced collectively Ogun – Guangdong Free Commerce Zone, represented by Dr. Mrs. Hafsat Oduwole Balewa, Chairperson, and eighteen aggrieved relations led by Hon. Solomon Gbadebo Ajose. Through the deliberations, the Hon. Commissioner for Justice communicated that the gazette submitted by Hon. Solomon Gbadebo Ajose had been launched by the Bureau of Lands & Survey Division, affirming the excision’s standing.

“The Commissioner asserted that the disputed land unequivocally belongs to Ogun – Guangdong Free Commerce Zone, not Igbesa Ejila – Awori Neighborhood, primarily based on the gazette’s contents. Barrister Josiah O. Ogunwale, main a authorized staff on behalf of the aggrieved households, pleaded for a good decision and emphasised the significance of compensation for affected households.”
