Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged the new administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Denis Otuaro, to prioritise education in order to foster development in the Niger Delta region.
Jonathan made the appeal, according to a statement on Saturday, while he hosted Otuaro during a consultative visit to him in Abuja, on Friday.
He said, “You need to focus attention on the education scholarship under the programme to benefit more people in the region.
“You have to ensure that the programme is taken back to the region to expose more people to the impact of the Federal Government in the region. Women empowerment is also important as part of the efforts to deepen peace in the region.’
Also speaking, Otuaro, thanked the former President for his contribution to peace and development “not just in the Niger Delta but also the entire country.”
He assured Jonathan that the PAP under his leadership would not deviate from the original plan to sustain peace and development in the Niger Delta region.
