The Presidency has dismissed recent allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as unfounded and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency criticised Atiku’s claims of being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial dealings involving Lagos State.
The Presidency described the allegations as “baseless” and accused Atiku of relying on social media rumours to maintain political relevance. The statement further criticised the former Vice President for engaging in what it called “divisive rhetoric” instead of contributing constructively to national discourse.
President Bola Tinubu, the statement emphasised, remains focused on addressing critical national issues and advancing Nigeria’s development agenda. The Presidency urged Atiku to redirect his efforts toward fostering unity and economic progress.
Additionally, the Presidency affirmed the independence of the EFCC, stating that any insinuation of external influence undermines the agency’s professionalism and commitment to the rule of law. It also reiterated its dedication to transparency and accountability in governance.
