The Jigawa State Police Command says it has successfully trained its School Protection Squad on advanced police Video Geographic Surveillance technology for incident management.
According to the command, this move is a step towards enhancing school security in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Dutse, the state capital, said the training was conducted by Mr. Femi Amorim, an ICT expert from the National Centre, School Protection Squad, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The training, which started on March 12, 2025, equipped officers with the expertise to effectively utilise POLICE_VGS technology for incident reporting, dispatching, and response.
The statement reads, “The programme covered the core operations of the Security Response Management System (SRMS), including accurate and timely reporting of security incidents, coordinating emergency responses, and delivering swift and effective intervention during security threats.
“Participants took part in practical sessions, acting as reporters, dispatchers, and responders to simulate real-world security scenarios. This hands-on approach ensured that the officers were well-equipped to handle any situation that may arise.”
Adam said, the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad T Abdullahi, praised the National Centre, Special Intervention School Protection Squad, Force Headquarters Abuja, for this initiative.
He emphasised the command’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved school security.
Accordingly, Abdullahi reiterated that the police will continue to prioritise the safety of students, teachers, and school environments.
“With the advanced POLICE_VGS technology, the School Protection Squad is now better equipped to respond to security incidents,” he said.
The statement therefore stated that the command is committed to ensuring that schools in Jigawa State remain safe and secure.
“The command’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved school security is a step in the right direction,” Adam stressed.
He urged parents and guardians to cooperate with the School Protection Squad to achieve this goal.
“As the Jigawa State Police Command continues to prioritise school security, parents and guardians can rest assured that their wards are in good hands,” the statement added.
