The Bauchi State Police Command has restricted vehicle movement to give way for hitch-free local government elections across the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, made this known in a statement on Friday.

Wakil explained that the vehicular movement restriction was to take effect from 7am to 4pm on Saturday.

“To maintain public order and prevent potential disturbances, vehicle movement will be restricted from 7am to 4pm on Saturday, with exemptions for essential services such as medical personnel, journalists, and emergency services,” he stated.

Wakil also disclosed that the command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has deployed a significant number of personnel strategically across key locations in the state.

He added, “On August 17, 2024, the Bauchi State Police Command implemented thorough security measures to ensure the safety of all citizens at the 5,013 polling units across the state.

“The aim is to provide a fair environment for all political parties during the election process.

“The command aims to prevent any disruptions during the election. Also, to maintain public order and prevent potential disturbances, vehicle movement will be restricted from 7am to 4pm on Saturday, with exemptions for essential services such as medical personnel, journalists, and emergency services.”

Wakil urged all eligible voters to abide by the law and participate in the election without fear or intimidation, emphasising that decisive action will be taken against any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election.

He also called on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders, and guardians to encourage their wards and subjects not to be used to cause trouble before, during and after the election.

“The command clearly warns all criminal elements in the state to desist from any activities that threaten the safety and security of the state, as law enforcement agencies will not hesitate to confront and neutralize violators by the law.

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and urges the public to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies. It is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station,” the PPRO concluded.
