The Katsina Police Command said its operatives have foiled two separate kidnap attempts in Jibia and Faskari areas of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, while briefing newsmen on Sunday, said the Command also rescued 20 kidnapped victims.
He said the first incident occurred on December 7th, 2024, at about 19:00 hours at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina–Magamar Jibia road in Jibia LGA.
According to him, a group of armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, opened fire on a moving vehicle, as they attempted to abduct the occupants.
However, the passengers were rescued by the operatives attached to the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, who were acting on a tip-off.
The operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel. Some of the hoodlums escaped with gunshot injuries, while the operatives rescued all ten occupants of the vehicle
On the same date at about 20:30 hours at Marabar Bangori, along the Funtua–Gusau road in Faskari LGA, suspected armed bandits laid an ambush on a motor vehicle carrying passengers, but the operatives engaged the bandits who abandoned their heinous plan and fled the scene.
The passengers were rescued, while one of victims who was seriously injured was admitted in the hospital
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the operatives, and charged them to sustain the tempo in the ongoing fight against all forms of crime and criminality in the state
