The police in Lagos yesterday averted a bomb explosion, which was targeted at one of the the premises of Nigerian Customs Service along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja .
The police claimed that an unidentified person yesterday afternoon dropped an Improvised Explosive Device (EID) near the custom’ s fence and escaped.
The police image maker said: “On July 31, 2024 at about 16:00 hrs, a police officer reported at the EOD- CBRN base at Ikeja that while he was on his way along Mobolaji Bank – Anthony Way, Ikeja, he sighted an unregistered white Toyota car that parked on the main road close to the PMF 23 barracks, and a young man alighted from the car, carefully dropped a bag by the side of the Federal Operations unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, returned into the car and zoomed off.”
He added: “Based on the report, a team of EOD – CBRN from the base was quickly mobilised to the scene to identify the object and render the same safe if confirmed to be IED.”
According to the police spokesperson, “On arrival, it was discovered to be an IED.
“Subsequently, the area was cordoned off, SOP adopted, IED rendered safe, and thereafter, taken to a safe distance for detonation accordingly.”
The police image maker also stated that the residual of the IED has been collected for further analysis and investigations.
