The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects for alleged involvement in cultism and armed robbery, recovering a pump-action gun, a battle axe, and two suspected stolen phones in the process.
Spokesman for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
“Following security measures put in place by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, to curb incidents of robbery along Club Road, Awka, popularly known as Abakaliki Street, police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cult Unit, Enugwu-Ukwu, arrested two suspects in the early hours of March 18, 2025,” the statement read.
The suspects, identified as Chibuike Ozoekwem (22) and Favour Patrick (19), were apprehended in an uncompleted building on Onwurah Street, Awka.
Items recovered from them include one pump-action gun, 16 expended cartridges, a battle axe, and two suspected stolen mobile phones.
One of the victims has since identified one of the recovered phones, stating that she was robbed at gunpoint by four armed men along Club Road on March 13.
Ikenga noted that the police have intensified efforts to track down other members of the gang, assuring that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he added.
