The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo, yesterday accused political parties of orchestrating thuggery and killings in the state.
The CP, however, noted that unless political actors cease their blame games, it may be difficult to sustain lasting stability in the state.
Mr. Garba made these remarks during the end-of-year press briefing at the Bompai Command headquarters in response to a question about the security threat posed by thugs and other related criminals in Kano.
According to him, the police’s strategic measures to address political thuggery include both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
The CP emphasised that the police are not relenting in their efforts to deploy maximum force to arrest, detain, and prosecute suspected political thugs.

He expressed concern, however, that while the command arrests, prosecutes, and sends the thugs to jail, they often find their way out of prison and continue to disrupt the relative peace in the state.
“We are arresting, prosecuting, and even jailing many of the thugs in Kano, and that is why you would have noticed the state continues to enjoy peace.
“But what we have observed is that, at the end of the day, these thugs are released from prison. This has been the reason for the resurgence of crises in the state. However, we will not rest. The police will keep arresting and parading them.
“On the non-kinetic approach, the police have urged all political interests to call their members to order. But the problem cannot be solved if politicians continue to play the blame game,” Dogo stated.
The police boss recounted how the command had combated banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery across 17 frontline local councils bordering Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, and Bauchi states during the outgoing year of 2024.
The command successfully overcame these security challenges through critical analysis, intelligence-led surveillance, visibility policing, and collaboration with sister security agencies.
Mr. Garba maintained that the success recorded in crime management under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun in the outgoing year has significantly contributed to the reduction in crime rates.
