The Nigerian Bar Association branches on the Plateau have called for the prosecution of all those arrested in connection with the killings in Bokkos and Bassa.
The lawyers demanded that they perpetrators be prosecuted in Jos and not taken to Abuja where they would be released without prosecution.
Addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos on Tuesday, the four branches of NBA on the Plateau decried situation where perpetrators were arrested, taken to Abuja and later released.
In the statement signed by Chairman NBA, Jos Branch, Leah Dagung Hassan; Chairman NBA, Pankshin Branch, W. T. Awe, Chairman NBA. Bukuru Branch, S.T. Ahile and Charman NBA, Shendam Branch, David Dashak, the lawyers demanded:
“The immediate identification, arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of these wicked act.
“That all perpetrators who are arrested be prosecuted in the State and not be taken to Abuja where we do not hear anything about them again, indicating that they have been released.
The lawyers said that “It is utterly heart-Wrenching that while Plateau State is yet to recover from the horror and pain of previous attacks, our peace is once again shattered by another wave of senseless and barbaric killings. These acts of violence are a direct assault on our shared humanity, the rule of law, and the Fundamental Right to Life as enshrined in our Constitution.
“The Reaction of the Nigerian Bar Association as adequately captured by the President of the Association , Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN in the Press release of 15th April, 2025 calling on the Government to rise up to its responsibility of safe guarding and protecting the life of the citizen.
‘We adopt in totality the President’s
address calling on the Government to uphold the tenets of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to wit the right to life.
“We further condemn in the strongest possible terms these brutal and premeditated attacks and calls on all security agents to rise above rhetoric and deliver visible and effective justice.
“The continued bloodletting in Plateau State, under the guise of communal crises must no longer be treated with indifference or vague promises. The slogan should no longer be “Enough is enough”, but it should be
