Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has stressed the importance of tree planting in shielding and protecting the environment from devastation and encroachment.
The Governor added that regular tree planting and nurturing play a critical role in mitigating challenges associated with desertification and whirlwinds, particularly during the rainy and dry seasons.
Bala Mohammed was speaking at the 2024 Annual Tree Planting Campaign flag-off ceremony held at the Sa’adu Zungur University, Yuli Campus, in Bauchi on Saturday.

Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau, he stressed, “The best way to address environmental challenges is for citizens to plant and nurture trees for sustainable growth and development.”
Bala Mohammed commended the Ministry of Housing and Environment for sustaining the tree planting campaign and urged citizens of the state to adopt the habit.
He also called for collective action to protect the environment, emphasizing the need to desist from harmful environmental activities such as illegal tree felling.
Bala Mohammed reiterated his commitment to introducing policies supporting environmental sustainability and praised the Ministry of Housing and Environment for its efforts in ensuring a healthy and clean environment throughout the state.
Also speaking, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, assured legislative support for environmental policies, stressing that such support is needed to protect and preserve the environment.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Rt. Hon. Danlami Ahmad Kawule, said that the annual tree planting campaign aims to create awareness about the need to protect the environment through regular planting and nurturing of trees.
He stated that the theme for the 2024 edition is ‘One Man, One Tree,’ which aims to ensure that people adopt the habit and culture of planting trees to replace those felled for human activities.
The Commissioner then enjoined the citizens of the state to join the movement by planting and nurturing trees to contribute to a greener Bauchi State.
