The presidential candidate of the Labour Party may have tacitly endorsed the National Working Committee of the Labour Party led by Julius Abure, as he made an appearance at the national secretariat of the party while the National Chairman was addressing party members who came in solidarity.
Obi said he was at the national secretariat for a visit to the chairman and would continue to strive to bring all warring parties over the crisis in the party to unity.
He stated that the challenges facing Nigeria are in human capital development, bordering on food, security, education, health, and water.
“I assure you that we will be here with you. I am doing whatever I can in my own position to ensure that we unite as one. I have always said to people that elections have come and gone.
“We are now talking about how “Nigerians will eat. We have to talk about food; we have to talk about caring for people. We have to talk about the security of the people; we have to talk about their education.
He said most politicians are focused on the next election
“If you follow me every day, I am going around talking about health, education, water security, and food. When the next election comes, we will talk about the next election.
“For now, let us talk about how we are going to survive till then because we politicians always focus on the next election and not on human beings. For me, when they survive the next election, we can talk about the election.
Let us focus on Nigeria and see that Nigeria works. If Nigeria is working, the Labour Party will work. If Nigeria fails, so will the Labour Party.
In his address to members of the party who thronged the party secretariat in solidarity, the national chairman of the party, Julius Abure, said the national working committee was appreciative of the visit of the party members and the presidential candidate.
He said it was high time the varying groups of dissenting voices over the Nnewi convention came together and set all their personal interests aside to work for a party that would make a good show in the next election season.
“I want to say this very clearly: the convention has come and gone. All those who are still angry with us over the Nnewi convention, we want to appeal to them and say that they should all come together to work with us to build the party for a new Nigeria that has a vision.
“I believe very strongly that personal interests should be put aside and pursued in a new Nigeria that will work for all,” Abure stated.
The Chairman of the Labour Party, Federal Capital Territory chapter, Peter Dugwu, who organised the visit, said that the chapter had come in solidarity with the national working committee of the party and promised that the over 2000 polling units in the territory—62 wards and 6 area council elections—would be won by the Labour Party.
