PDP mum over APC’s directive to impeach Fubara

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is keeping mum on the directive by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the state house assembly members loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, to commence the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of APC in the state issued a call during a press conference in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

Fubara, however, regards the assembly members as non-existent, maintaining that out of magnanimity, he had only provided them the opportunity to “float.”

The move by the APC is a culmination of the long-running crisis between the governor and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) leading to the defection of 27 state lawmakers from the PDP to the APC.

Even though the PDP national leadership had warned that the defecting members had lost their seats by virtue of the provisions of the constitution, it never pressed ahead with any action to actualize it.

When the Nigerian Tribune reached the PDP national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on the phone Tuesday, he declined to comment on the matter.

He said did not want to talk about the APC move because he was not in the position to talk.

When pressed to respond, the party spokesman said he was not aware of the development and only stated, “no comment.”
