A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support group has strongly condemned the alleged attempted assassination of Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Lawal Adamu Usman (Mr LA).
The group in the Northwest described the incident as an attempt to “murder democracy in broad daylight.”
According to the spokesperson for the PDP group, Engr Sanusi Sarki, the incident was a “political permutation taken too far” against the lawmaker. The group called on security operatives, particularly the Police and Department of State Security, to investigate the incident urgently and uncover those behind the attempted murder.
“We are aware that Senator Usman Adamu is a very important political leader in Kaduna who has done much for his constituents, which is perceived to be sending fever into the spines of some political jobbers,” he said.
The group emphasized that such acts are unacceptable in a democratic society, urging the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We call for an urgent investigation to uncover those behind the attempted murder of the Senator. This is democracy and such is not expected. Those who masterminded the failed effort should be fished out and dealt with in the language they understand. We call on the Police, DSS and other security operatives in Kaduna to bring an end to such acts.”
Sarki also advised political representatives to be security conscious while discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
“We also urge our political representatives to be security conscious while they discharge their constitutional responsibilities,” he said.
The group therefore urged PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, to order immediate investigations into this attempt in order to reveal the masterminds.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, had earlier asked the lawmaker to provide the command with details of the incident for prompt action.
