A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sunny Onuesoke, says the comment of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, that Nigeria’s problems are spiritual is not true.
Rather, the former governorship aspirant in Delta State said what is needed is that the country’s leadership must take drastic action against the dwindling economy.
Adeboye had, last Sunday in Kaduna, said that “it has become clearer to us that the problems are nation is facing is more than political. Our problems would require quite a bit of spiritual solutions.
“We as a country are blessed with people with great intelligence and all manner of resources and yet we have so many problems.
“And it’s not as if people in authority are not trying their best, they are doing as much as humanly possible and when you have problems that are beyond human ability to solve then you can on the Almighty.
“That’s why He’s called the Almighty because He can solve all problems.”
Unsettled with the ‘spiritual’ angle to solving the problems of Nigeria, social media trollers had descended on the octogenarian, accusing him of being economical with the truth.
Onuesoke, in a chat on Wednesday, argued that it is impossible to fix economic problems spiritually.
He stressed that if it is possible, Nigeria would have been the richest country, followed by Yemen, Afghanistan, Jamaica, and Haiti, among others.
He claimed that today’s contemporary world does not respect people of prayer, just as he disclosed that men of science and technology rule in today’s world.
“Where are all the men of prayers in Ukraine and Gaza with all the human suffering going on” he queried.
The PDP chieftain further explained,” In Europe, churches are folding up due to lack of churchgoers, but the countries are moving on, due to the infrastructures and social securities that are in place.
“No single citizen goes with an empty stomach to bed or lacks medical care. Not even registered asylum seekers.”
Onuesoke, who disclosed that God has given Nigeria all it needed to prosper, however, pointed out that the carelessness and greed of the nation’s leaders, coupled with the shared laziness of the people to think aside crude oil and thieving leadership style, are headaches of Nigeria.
“Public office holders, clerics and politicians are the problems of Nigeria. There is absolutely nothing spiritual about Nigeria’s woes.
“If the right leadership is in place, Nigeria will do great exploits,” he averred.
While at a loss where Nigeria is sliding to, Onuesoke stated that things are working in the Western world today, not because they are fasting and praying more than Nigerians, but because there are systems in place that are working due to the sincerity and purposefulness of their leaders.
He added that Nigeria’s case is the reverse because the political leaders are sucking the Nigeria treasury dry and go unpunished after endless investigations.
He reiterated that the time for pretence is past, adding that this is the time to talk to our leaders, otherwise, God will hold them accountable if the situation further deteriorates.
“This is the right time for our religious leaders, I mean the General Overseers (GOs) of Churches, the Imams and leaders of the Muslim faith, our traditional rulers (the obas, the emirs, the Ovies, the Olus, and elder statesmen should tell our political leaders the truth.
“There’s is serious hunger and hardship in our country today. Let’s tell ourselves the truth, nothing is working in our country.
“The hardship and suffering in our country has gone beyond the extreme,” Onuesoke lamented.
