Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has explained why his team beat the Banyana Banyana of South Africa to the 2024 Olympic Games ticket.
Nigeria earned a place at Paris 2024 at the expense of the reigning African champions after a 1-0 aggregate scoreline.
Waldrum claimed the Super Falcons beat their rivals to the ticket because of their defensive organisation.
“We were much more organised than the previous times we played them,” Waldrum said after the game.
“South Africa talked a lot before these two matches, we just kept quiet.
“That’s why I felt confident. I believe in our team and I knew we will be hard team to break down even with their talent.
“The thing we would then hope is that you finish off one or two of your opportunities to advance and that is what we did.”
Nigeria will slot into Group C at Paris 2024, joining Spain, Japan and Brazil.
It will be the fourth Olympics for the Super Falcons, the most of any African nation, and their first appearance since Beijing 2008.
