The Pan Niger Delta Forum has expressed alarm over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, by President Bola Tinubu.
The President made the declaration in a national broadcast on Tuesday evening, where he also announced the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, and members of the state House of Assembly.
The President also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state’s administrator, to oversee governance..
Reacting to the development in a short statement on Tuesday evening, the National spokesman for PANDEF, Obiuwevbi Ominimini, said the group was “seriously alarmed” over the President’s declaration, adding that the group was “studying the situation”, and would make it’s position known, at a later time.
“PANDEF is seriously alarmed by the state of emergency declared in Rivers State due to a crisis that is ordinarily avoidable.
“We are therefore studying the situation and we shall soon come up with Pandef’s position,” he said.
