Oyo State workforce, including pensioners, have expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for the reflection of the approved N80,000 minimum wage in the just-paid January salaries and pensions.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in a message forwarded to our correspondent on Saturday, said the affected workers are full of gratitude to the governor for living up to his promises.
The message received from Dr Tayo Alayande, a pensioner, read: “I got slightly above ×2 of what I had been collecting monthly.
“This is not a small amount as I retired on GL 17 Step 9. I reliably learnt that this is the amount I will henceforth be collecting monthly.
“Also, pensioners whose pensions had been very low got ×3 ×4. Kudos to our God-sent amiable governor who has been consistently consistent in his promise of payments of salaries and pensions by or before the 25th of the month.
“This has never failed since he assumed office as governor almost 6 years ago. This is in addition to feasible developmental projects, particularly road infrastructure in the state.
“May the Lord bless and uplift our people-loving governor to greater heights in governance. As I said in one of my earlier comments, I wish we have him at the helm of affairs at the topmost post. Amen.”
Also, Dr Adesoji A.’s message read, “E ku isẹ ilu, Oluwa a ma funyin se. E bawa dupe lowo Gov. Seyi Makinde o. My wife received her first salary based on the new minimum wage yesterday. Aside from enhancing the family’s standard of living, it will also put dignity to her labour in her teaching job.
“Another important thing is that it was seamlessly executed right from the wage award stage.
“I don’t think I have ever witnessed a minimum wage transition without rancour between labour and the government, and strikes.
“May God continue to increase his influence, keep and bless him.”
