The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has emphasized his administration’s efforts to foster a thriving environment for technology-oriented businesses in the state. Speaking at the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN) Summit 1.0, held in Ibadan with the theme “The Rain of Transformation Is Upon Us: CEOs Arise,” Makinde highlighted initiatives aimed at supporting technological innovation and economic growth.
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on ICT, Mr. Bayo Akande, the governor stated that the government has implemented key measures to make Oyo State a hub for tech-driven initiatives.
“We have taken significant steps to create an enabling environment for companies like RAIN to succeed,” he said. “Institutions such as the Seyi Makinde Innovation and Technology Hub (SMITH) are training students in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, equipping them with skills for the future.”
Makinde also pointed to the integration of digital tools in tertiary institutions, which streamline student information and management systems, as part of efforts to foster innovation. Additionally, he expressed plans to collaborate with organizations like RAIN to expand access to specialized courses for citizens across the state.
The governor noted that Oyo State has adopted policies to reduce the cost of doing business, including aligning its charges on infrastructure deployment with the NCC’s recommended rates.
Earlier, the convener of the summit, Dr. Olusola Ayoola, emphasized the transformative potential of technology, describing it as “the backbone of progress.” He highlighted the summit’s goal of bringing together innovators, entrepreneurs, and young talents to drive societal development.
Dr. Ayoola called for partnerships among stakeholders to harness technological advancements for national growth, stating, “We must leverage collective expertise to turn challenges into opportunities for our youth.”
The RAIN Summit 1.0 featured discussions on fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development through technology in Nigeria.
