Ancient town of Oyo is set for the official enthronement of Oba Akeem Owoade 1 as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo on Saturday.
The event has been designated to be held at different venues including; Oliveth Baptist High School where the Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde’ will be leading notable dignitaries, Ladigbolu Grammar School, Durbar Stadium, Oba Lamidi Aderemi mini stadium and the palace of Alaafin of Oyo.
Oba Owoade who is ascending the throne of his forbears after Late Oba Adeyemi joined his ancestors completed the 21 days traditional rites, “Oro Ipebi,” on Saturday, 29th March 2025.
During the period, the monarch visited some historical places including Koso in line with the tradition.
With the completion of the traditional rite, the official Coronation ceremony has been scheduled to take place on Saturday.
Notable dignitaries from all walks of life including traditional rulers, diplomats and government functionaries have been scheduled to be in attendance at the event.
To address this situation, necessary security arrangements, including the deployment of operatives, have been established.
Police vans and other security agency vehicles have been strategically positioned in various areas of the town, checks revealed.
Some of the areas visited include Owoade, Jabata, Akesan, Isale Oyo, Eleekara, the School of Survey, and others.
A police source, who requested to remain anonymous, disclosed that additional personnel have been deployed to the town to prevent any breakdown of law and order during and after the event.
“I can assure you that the Police in conjunction with other operators are ready to ensure a hitch-free event.
Also, some of the hotels visited by our correspondent are fully booked to accommodate visitors that are coming for the event.
One of the hotel managers said, “We have upgraded our facilities in order to ensure that the lodgers have memorable stay in the town.
Also, the security agencies have assured us of adequate security of our facilities.
In another development, most of the places visited by our correspondent have been given face-lift. Such places include; the Palace of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi mini stadium, Oliveth Baptist High School and others.
Also, there is a report that the popular Akesan and other adjoining markets will be shut during in order to allow active participation of the market men and women at the event.
It will also be a mark of honour for the new monarch.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that different Socio-cultural groups will be featuring at the event in their respective Aso Ebi.
