The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed a viral video alleging that residents were being abducted by uniformed security personnel, stating that the clip is an old recording from the 2020 EndSARS protests.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adewale Osifeso, said in a statement that the chairman of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, who shared the video, had confirmed that it was a recycled clip and that the issues raised were no longer relevant.
Osifeso condemned the circulation of the outdated footage, attributing it to individuals seeking to spread falsehoods and create unnecessary apprehension.
Osifeso said: “The recycling of this video at a time when relative security has been achieved can only be attributed to the handiwork of fifth columnists, whose modus operandi is to spread unfounded rumours and create apprehension.
“The command therefore advises residents not to be distracted by such antics.”
He urged residents to disregard such misleading content and remain calm, assuring them of the police command’s commitment to maintaining security in the state.
The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, while reiterating the command’s commitment to guaranteeing the safety and security of all state residents , appealed to members of the public to refrain from circulating old video clips of issues that had been conclusively dealt with.
