The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has lamented the death of a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Musiliu Olaide Akinremi.
The APC described the death of the lawmaker as a great loss to the party, Ibadanland and Nigeria as a whole.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that Akinremi died in the early hours of Wednesday.
The lawmaker was elected in 2019 and later re-elected in 2023 on the platform of APC.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary Wasiu Olawale Sadare, said that Akinremi’s death happened at a time he was needed most by his constituents, the National Assembly and the human society as a whole.
“Prince Akinremi’s demise is a death too many as he means so much to our great Party even in death. It was he who redefined representation at the National Assembly to give relief and hope to the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency. He was the face of responsible and responsive leadership with many achievements on his record.
“The Barr. Isaac Omodewu-led State Executive Committee as well as the entire members and supporters of the APC have lost a wonderful party man and a colourful politician who left indelible footprints on the sands of time. The vacuum he left behind will be extremely difficult to fill but we find solace in the legacy of kindness, philanthropy and service to the people which he was able to implant on the surface of the earth”.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli in his contribution, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the lawmaker.
Alli lamented the lawmaker’s death in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas.
The lawmaker in the statement made available to Arogidigba Global Journal in Ibadan, described the death of the lawmaker as a significant loss to the nation, family, APC, friends, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Rep. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi was a beacon of hope and a pillar of strength for many.
“His passion for improving the lives of those he served was evident in his numerous initiatives and projects aimed at fostering development and uplifting the underprivileged.
“His demise is a great loss that leaves a void in our hearts and the annals of our political history.”
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oyo State Council in its reaction, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the lawmaker, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola.
The statement was made available to Arogidigba Global Journal through the union’s Secretary, Sola Oladapo.
NUJ in the statement described Akinremi as a philanthropist of note who touched many lives during his lifetime.
The union added that the contributions of the lawmaker cannot be forgotten in a hurry.
“The Oyo NUJ is deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Adewale Akinremi. He was a friend of the media and a champion of the people. His contributions to the development of Ibadan North, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole will never be forgotten”.
