Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Abia-North Lawmaker, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu have reaffirmed the importance of collaborative synergy between the legislative and executive arms of Government to deliver rapid and transformative benefits to the people of the state.
Both Political leaders stated this on Tuesday at the Nvosi, Ngwa private residence of the State Governor during a courtesy call by the former Governor of the State, Orji Kalu.
In their separate addresses Governor Otti ( Labour Party, LP )
and Kalu ( All Progressives Congress, APC ) emphasised the need for Political stakeholders in the state to set aside their Party affiliations and prioritise working towards the overall welfare of the people of state.
In a brief address, Kalu informed that the purpose of the visit is to commemorate with the Governor for the New Year and to discuss issues pertaining to the progress of the state as well as brief the Governor on developments at the National Assembly while commending the Governor’s efforts to transform the state.
He said; “Part of my duty as a legislator is to brief you whenever I am in your state because you are the father of the state I will submit my private report card and also introduce you to some to some foreign investors whom I believe can add value to the state.
“What holds me and Governor Otti is more than what separates us and party can never come in between us. I don’t discuss party issues with the Governor, I keep away from party Politics. We only discuss the process and well-being of the State and areas where the Federal Government should assist us.
“Our interest is more on the development of our people than party affairs and I want to thank you again. I came an hour ahead of schedule but you still broke the protocol to honour and welcome me as a former Governor of this state. God will continue to bless you for the good of our people.
On his part the State Governor commended Kalu for his representation describing it as proactive and impactful, he also urged Politicians to set aside their political affiliations and focus on moving the state forward.
Otti remarked;
“I thank His Excellency for this visit once elections and litigation are over, Party politics takes the backseat while Governance takes the front seat.
“Parties are mere social vehicles through which people use to get into power in Nigeria that is why we have people jumping from one party to another.
“I thank you for the qualitative representation at the National Assembly and any society that doesn’t have quality people who can speak for them. That society is doomed.
“We have been collaborating and working together in the best interest of our people and Governance is about the welfare of the people and that’s why as a Government we pay special attention to the welfare of our people.
