At least twenty five members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State have been pencilled down for arrest and abduction, the party has alleged.
The allegation was made by the Osun PDP in a statement by its chairman, Sunday Bisi on Saturday.
He claimed that the members were to be arrested by a security team from Abuja.
Bisi also alleged that the security team that would carry out the arrest planned to commence work from this week, without a warrant of arrest.
Those to be arrested, Bisi said, included four special advisers, five party leaders, and 15 other state officials, who upon their arrest would be transferred to Abuja.
Bisi disclosed that the plan to arrest the PDP and the Osun Government officials was exposed on Thursday night by some members of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, who bragged that they would use federal might to victimise Osun government officials and some leaders of his party.
Calling on the Police Service Commission and the Department of State Services, Bisi asked them to avoid political partisanship and eschew becoming an instrument of political vendetta and vengeance in the hands of those seeking pounds of flesh because they lost a free and fair governorship election.
“I want to call on President Bola Tinubu to caution members of his party in Osun because we will not allow our members to be harassed or victimized in the state. We seek Mr President’s immediate intervention,” the chairman added.
Reacting, the APC chairman in the state, Tajudeen Lawal said the allegation was baseless and a mere fabrication.
Lawal also said the Osun PDP was attempting to avoid answering pertinent questions regarding the contract procurement process supervised by the Adeleke government.
“The apprehension being exercised by the Osun PDP was part of the ploy to mystify the issue surrounding how the government of Osun recently awarded over N50bn road contracts to unqualified companies and cronies of the party with no technical and professional competence to execute road projects.
“The efforts of the PDP to whip up unmerited sympathy from the innocent citizenry had fallen flat as the informed citizens of the state were more determined to know the details of the shoddy contract process leading to how Governor Adeleke and his companions awarded state contracts to the serving Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, contrary to the provision of the rules guiding contract award,” he said.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that hostilities between the two leading political parties in the state became stronger earlier in the week when the opposition APC alleged that Governor Adeleke has been awarding contracts to unqualified companies of his cronies and family members.
The PDP denied the allegations and defended Adeleke.
