A traditional ruler in Osun State, Oba Adefemi Adelakin, Alabere of Abere, Ede North, has condemned the attack on Oba Jelili Olaiya, Ajeniju of Hallelujah in Egbedore Local Government of the state, by some youths.
Some irate youths on Friday descended on the newly installed Ajeniju and beat him while attempting to conduct Jumat service.
The monarch who sustained serious injuries was reportedly taken to the State CID for further investigation and safety and which he was taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment.
Alabere, who spoke to our Correspondent on Saturday, described the attack on traditional ruler as disrespectful and sacrilegious, saying the action was taken too far.
According to Alabere, the action of the angry youths goes against the tradition of Yorubaland and it is an attack on custom and tradition.
“Any attack against a monarch is an attack on custom and tradition and a slap on all traditional rulers in Nigeria.
“It should be noted that a king is the representative of tradition and the stool should be respected whatever the circumstances.
“I thereby call on the security operatives to ensure arrest and prosecution of whoever is involved in the attack and ensure that justice is served.
“I appreciate the urgent intervention of the state government and I appeal to Governor Ademola Adeleke to ensure that the attackers of the monarch are made to face the law so as to serve as deterrent to others who may wish to embarrass traditional institutions,” the monarch said.
