Following last week Tuesday’s deadly attack on Araromi-Owu, in Ayedade Local Government Area of Osun State, many residents who were chased out of the community are still living in the bush for fear of being further attacked.
The victims of the unprovoked attack are now calling on the Osun State government, the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, among other security agencies, to come to their aid by providing enough security, so they can return to Orile-Owu to continue their daily commercial activities.
The chiefs of Araromi-Owu who revealed these at a press conference held in Osogbo, stated that it is unfortunate that, some hoodlums could succeed in ejecting bonafide dwellers of the community from their respective domains and still after their lives.
According to them, the affected people are currently sleeping, eating and even bathing in the bush and are crying for help from the concerned authorities to come to their aid for them to return to the community.
Addressing the press on behalf of other Chiefs, the Eekaaarun Balogun of Orile-Owu, Chief Ganiyu Opawuyi however, called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to urgently set up a judicial panel of enquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident that led to the killing of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense 1Corps (NSCDC) and one other over a monarchy tussle in the town last week Tuesday.
He stressed that many of those living in the bush had even lost their properties to arson during the attack.
Chief Ganiyu who affirmed that, Oba Olukayode Oremakinde is the recognised monarch in the town but, opposed one Sikiru Oyeyemi, who was purportedly installed by the Olowu of Orile-Owu, Oba Dauda Akinfalabi.
It would be recalled that the newly installed Olu of Araromi-Owu, in Ayedaade Local Government of Osun State, HRH Oba (Dr.) Olukayode Adeyemi Oremakinde, was last Tuesday attacked while lives and properties in his domain, were destroyed by hoodlums believed to have been sponsored by a prominent personality who hired them for the killings and maiming of innocent souls.
The attack which led to the death of one NSCDC Officer and another person, left many residents to sustain varying degrees of injuries.
He however noted that the grandfather of Oremakinde who hailed from Ibadan in Oyo state, founded Araromi-Owu, hence the reason he was unanimously selected and installed by hundreds of residents, Chiefs and Kingmakers, as the next traditional ruler of the town, in line with the government gazetted procedure.
”It is noteworthy that Mr Sikiru Oyege is a chief of Orile-Owu and not Araromi-Owu. He was never conferred a title of any kind by the kingmakers or people of Araromi-Owu at any time and we are wondering how he wanted to forcefully install a monarch for us.”
