Osifo re-elected as TUC President

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has re-elected its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, for another four-year term. Osifo was returned unopposed during the inaugural Quadrennial Delegates’ Congress and the celebration of TUC’s 20th anniversary held on Friday in Abuja.

Expressing gratitude to the delegates for their renewed confidence in him and 18 other executive members, Osifo pledged to elevate the labour movement, prioritise workers’ welfare, and intensify efforts on unionisation.

“I wish to make this singular promise: we will never let you down,” he stated. “We will work day and night with affiliates, state councils, and the Women’s Commission to ensure the welfare and rights of Nigerian workers remain sacrosanct.”

He emphasised his commitment to improving remuneration and tackling challenges affecting workers across the country, assuring members that the newly elected leadership consists of experienced and capable unionists determined to fulfil their mandate.

Osifo also vowed to confront companies that continue to deny workers their right to unionise. “We will take the battle to them,” he asserted. “For affiliates needing support, we will be there for you.”

Speaking to journalists, Osifo revealed that the TUC successfully brought in 10 new affiliates over the last three years and plans to expand further.

“Our strength lies in our numbers,” he said. “We aim to increase membership and strengthen smaller unions, because a movement is only as strong as its weakest link.”
