Oriflame is an international well being and beauty company with an ambitious sustainability agenda.
As a global company, Oriflame acknowledges that the business activities throughout the value chain are contributing to a negative impact on the climate and to the acceleration of climate change. Therefore, the company has, for more than a decade, annually calculated their climate impact and implemented various actions and strategies to reduce their emissions. For the fourth year running, Oriflame has been recognised as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders 2024 by the Financial Times and Statista. Whilst Oriflame is focusing on reducing emissions in its own operations and value chain, they also act beyond their value chain and have funded various climate action projects around the world.
In 2023, Oriflame started to invest in a climate action project in Nigeria in partnership with Becour, Energy Peace Partners and Prado Power. Thanks to this project, they have funded the installation of solar mini grids in Maijaki community in northern Nigeria. The investment will bring both environmental and social benefits to the community in Nigeria.
A Productive Use Hub will be installed alongside the solar panels and will allow processed agricultural products to be brought to market, with a potential to transform the lives of over a thousand people in the community of Maijaki in Lapai, Niger State.
The revenue will be used to purchase processing equipment to boost economic activities in the community and enhance food security. The equipment will be owned by women-led SMEs, who will act as processors, and smallholder farmers will benefit from improved market access.
The solar mini grid meets about 45% of total community demand, provides clean, reliable, and affordable power to about 455 households, and supports a range of commercial activities, such as medicine stores, phone charging stations, barber shops and provisions stores.
This collaboration underscores Oriflame’s mission to increase positive impact on people’s lives, while reducing any negative impact on the environment.
