The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) led by Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has declared its readiness to assist government in tackling insecurity whenever the need arises.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, particularly in the southwestern region of Nigeria, while also revealing plans for its 30th-anniversary celebrations.
Founded on August 29, 1994, the socio-cultural organization has grown into an international presence.
For the anniversary, Prof. Kolawole Raheem, Chairman of the Planning Committee, stated that all six southwestern governors, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, and other dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria are expected to attend the nine-day event in Lagos.
The celebrations will begin on Friday, August 23, 2024, with a Thanksgiving Programme.
Prof. Raheem revealed that former Ogun State governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel will serve as Chairman of the Day, and Prof. Olufemi Otubanjo, a Senior Researcher at the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs (NIIA), will be the guest lecturer.
The week-long event will include visits to notable locations such as the Old People’s Home on August 24, 2024, and Pacelli School for the Blind and Deaf the following day.
It will also feature the official commissioning of the N1 billion Legacy Project, “The Oodua House,” and a Heroes’ Day celebration, providing an opportunity to highlight the OPC’s achievements over the past three decades.
