The Deputy Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Austin Meregini, has described the death of Ogbonaya Onu, a former Minister of Science and Technology as devastating.
Meregini made this known on Thursday.
Onu, a former chairman of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party(ANPP) and former Abia governor, died on Thursday in Abuja at 72.
The Abia deputy speaker said the late Onu was an unassuming politician, who was committed to the Nigerian project.
Meregini added that Onu would be sorely missed by the Igbo race, Nigeria and humanity, for all the positive things he represented.
“He was a rare gem, he was somebody we can have only once in a generation. He was a calm gentleman and he was unassuming.
“The Igbo race will miss him, Nigeria will miss him and humanity will miss him. He will be sorely missed by all,” he said.
