A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning at the popular Eleyele market in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, claiming the life of a middle-aged woman and leaving several others injured.
The incident involved a DAF truck loaded with granite, which reportedly lost control while approaching the market from the Dugbe end of the Eleyele-Dugbe road. Witnesses stated that the truck’s brakes failed, causing it to veer into the crowded market.
The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Sango/Eleyele Motor Park, Olanrewaju Qazeem, and the Iyaloja of Eleyele Market, Mrs. Ramota Ajobiare, expressed their shock over the accident.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, Mayowa Odewo, also confirmed the fatality, urging drivers to exercise caution and avoid overspeeding to prevent similar tragedies.
Efforts are ongoing to support the affected victims and investigate the cause of the crash.
