Mr Osaro Onaiwu, an aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 21 Edo governorship election, has submitted his nomination form at the party secretariat in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a group known as Onaiwu’s friends purchased the form on January 25 for N35 million to enable Onaiwu to feature in the race.
Speaking after submitting his nomination form, Onaiwu said he was hopeful that his bid for the governorship position would be successful.
“As I hand in my nomination form, I am optimistic I will emerge victorious in the upcoming primary election.
“The next crucial step is the screening process, which has been scheduled to take place on Monday, Jan. 29 in Abuja.
“The screening will assess my suitability and qualifications as a candidate, determining whether I have met the party’s criteria for the governorship election.
“I believe that I have what it takes to win the election for the PDP and lay the foundation for the solid development of the state,” he said.
Upon receiving the form, officials at the PDP national secretariat promised that the primary election would be free, fair, and credible.
