The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Akinloye, Ige Olakulehin I, has extended his heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State over the loss of his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde.
Describing the news as both sad and inevitable, the monarch expressed his sympathy in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, and shared with journalists on Saturday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Engineer Sunday Makinde passed away in the early hours of Friday at the age of 65. Reflecting on his life, the Olubadan highlighted the late engineer’s humility and remarkable contributions to Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large.
The statement read: “The Olubadan of Ibadanland sympathises with Governor Seyi Makinde and his family over the untimely passing of his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde. Reports indicate that the deceased was a humble and accomplished individual who played a significant role in the development of Ibadan and beyond.
“While it is always painful to lose a loved one, we must accept it as an act of God. I urge Governor Makinde to remain strong in this difficult time.
“May the gentle soul of Engineer Sunday Makinde rest in perfect peace, and may God grant the Makinde family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
