From Ben Dunno, Warri
Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has presented the highest honour of Iwere Kingdom on the Vice Senate President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, Senator Fanny Moussokoura Chantal, for her outstanding commitment to the empowerment of women, especially, the girl child, both in her country and other parts of the continent.
The royal father presented the award to Chantal, who is an Itsekiri by her maternal lineage, during the women empowerment workshop organised by the kingdom.
The event titled “The role of women in community development” held at the Palace (Aghofen) in Warri South Local Government Area, the Olu of Warri said the kingdom will continue to recognise and honour any Itsekiri son or daughter who distinguishes him or herself in the kingdom as he had said years ago during his coronation. He charged all persons, especially of Itsekiri Kingdom, to come forth with ideas that would move the kingdom forward saying, such a person would be recognised accordingly.
According to him, God is interested in Itsekiri and the Warri Kingdom. “Our minds, our attitude must be open for people to partner with to build our kingdom.”
He urged Chantal to continue to do good for the growth of the Warri Kingdom.
Senator Chantal thanked the monarch for the award and promised to do her best to contribute her quota to the growth of the kingdom just as she has done to Cote d’Ivoire and other parts of the world.
Among other things, she promised to establish a bilingual primary school in Warri Kingdom just as she promised to carry the Olori along in all her doings. She charged women to be role models and do everything within their power to take care of their family and be in positions of leadership as she has found herself in the political sphere.
On her part, Olori Ogiame Atuwatse III, thanked the senator and her entire family including the mother of the Senator for the visit.
