The Ogun State Government has congratulated Oluwatimilehin Doko, the number one player of the Ogun State Scrabble Association, over his outstanding achievement as the newly crowned African Scrabble Champion in Kigali, Rwanda.
The government stated that his outstanding performance in the 32-round competition, which saw him win the title, was evidence of his diligence and hard work.
In a congratulatory letter signed by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, on Monday, the government stated that Timilehin has earned the prestigious Continental Champion (CC) badge due to his exceptional skills and strategic prowess, which he rightfully deserves after competing against the best in Africa.
Isiaka noted that in a remarkable display of talent, Timilehin defeated fellow Ogun State player and Team Nigeria colleague Abdulmumin Jimoh in the penultimate game, showcasing the depth of talent that the state continues to produce.
Other notable Ogun State players representing Nigeria alongside Timilehin in Kigali include Adebola Samuel, a dedicated doctor at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta; Cyril Umebiye; Olumide Oyejide; and the African Games Gold medallist, Adebisi Adekansi.
The letter reads, “We are immensely proud of Timilehin and our talented representatives who are members of Team Ogun in the upcoming National Sports Festival, tagged the Gateway Games Ogun 2024.
“Your triumphs inspire many across our state and demonstrate the potential that resides within our youth.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Chairman of the Ogun State Scrabble Association, our dedicated coaches, and the Ogun State Sports Council for their unwavering support and commitment to nurturing our athletes.
“Additionally, we recognize the continuous efforts of His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, whose commitment to the development of sports in Ogun State has paved the way for our athletes to excel on national and international stages.
