Nigerians have expressed their grief over the hike in the price of a bag of cement as it costs over N6000.
Reports gathered by Tribune Online on all social media platforms reveal that a bag of cement now sells at the minimum price of N6000 and more in different states in Nigeria.
Nigerians who engaged the report on all social media platforms revealed how much a bag of cement costs at their various locales.
Lamenting on the sudden hike in price, a Facebook user, @Felix Tony mentioned that he bought a bag at the rate of #7,600. He said, “I bought it at #7600 today.”
The lamentations of Nigerians over the hike in the price of cement came barely three months after the management of BUA Cement Plc announced a reduction in the price of its cement from N5,500 to N3,500 per 50kg bag. The company’s Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, had disclosed plans to lower cement prices after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
About the same time BUA announced its price slash, the Cement Producers Association of Nigeria (CEPAN) also assured the federal government and Nigerians of its members’ eagerness to support the federal government’s infrastructure drive to reduce the price of cement and ensure its price stability if the federal government will only revisit the backward integration policy of the late President Umar Yar Adua on cement.
The association also gave this assurance in a letter written to the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, and made available to the Nigerian Tribune.
Fast forward to February 2024, Nigerians are still lamenting over the unstable and astronomical rise in the price of cement nationwide, regardless of the brand.
James Obj reacted, Abuja 7,300 Our leaders are gradually destroying our only country Nigeria and we the youths just found our hands and do nothing as if all is well.

Another Facebook user, @Harrison Tochukwu Mankind mentioned that it is sold at N8500 in Kano State. He commented “ 8500 kabo in Kano state.”
Also reacting to the huge difference in the price of cement, @Egbujie Obinna Emma said, “It’s terrible. Last week….#5,400. But today…..#6,700. It’s serious.”
“In Ika local government area Akwa Ibom state. A bag of cement is 7k”, @Kingdom Ignatius Ekereuke commented.
