From Idu Jude, Abuja
As the world ushers in 2025, the leadership of the Obidient Movement has vowed to reinforce its political mobilisation to reclaim the “stolen mandate” of its principal, Mr Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential election.
The National Coordinator of the movement, Dr Tanko Yunusa, in a New Year message, stated that the group stands on the threshold of 2025 with beacons of hope so glaring and beams of light so daring as to face any opposition.
Tanko further said that the Obidient Movement globally is taking advantage of this year to reinforce its principles and continuously mobilise for the mandate.
“We have two years to the general elections; from our community outreaches, town hall meetings, ward-to-ward sensitisation, and rural and urban mobilisation, our victory must be certain.
“Therefore, as we embark on this new journey of reclaiming Nigeria for prosperity and greatness, let us remember to be patriotic Nigerians and advocate for good governance for the progress and development of our beloved country.”
Meanwhile, the group acknowledged various contributions made by stakeholders, stressing that the New Year will mark the beginning of its planned activities and actions, which will be published accordingly.
“We assure you that everyone is essential and will be engaged in the process, especially if your efforts are geared toward building a new Nigeria, transitioning from consumption to production.
“In conclusion, may this year bring you and your families joy, good health, prosperity, and countless opportunities to grow and thrive.
“In 2025, we shall make a bold statement. Together—myself, you, and the Obidient Movement globally—we will rebuild the broken walls of Nigeria.
“First, we look back in gratitude for the victories of so many battles won, reminiscing on the journey and where we currently are.
“As the clock strikes midnight on 31st December and we bid farewell to the year 2024, I would like to use this forum, on behalf of the Obidient Movement, to wish you a joyous and prosperous New Year, despite all the challenges of 2024.
“Secondly, on the plains of the ideals of our founding patriarch, Mr Peter Obi, we arise as compatriots. With sheer determination, unwavering faith, unity, and purpose, we uphold the great virtues of our nation.
“We believe that the emerging Nigeria is set on a trajectory of prosperity and genuine freedom.
“2025 will be a year when every Nigerian will break out from obscurity, lending their potential to the world, creating undiluted impact, and solving global problems.
“To the youths, the group indicated that there’s no better year to prove that you are the most talented on the surface of the earth. Be the frontiers of global movements, solving world problems, spearheading inventions and innovations that will put Africa in the spotlight, empowering the green-white-green apparel to soar so high, placing her on a new pedestal in the comity of nations.
“To the elders, this is a time to make a statement—a positive one at that. It is your time to command great value, exponentially increasing every sector of our economy and shared national life.”
The Obidient Movement, however, did not overlook the fact that 2024 was a year of challenges and among the most difficult experiences for the Nigerian people. These included high levels of insecurity, economic downturn, epileptic power supply with huge tariffs, hyperinflation, poverty, and a poor health sector, among others.
