Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has stated that the presence of members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, signified a willingness to serve Nigeria in a time when the country needs their innovation, energy, and patriotism more than ever.

Adeleke also commended the NYSC for its role in promoting unity, national integration, and youth development which cannot be overemphasised.

The governor spoke during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream I orientation course which is holding at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede, Osun State on Friday.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Moshood Olagunju, Adeleke while welcome the corps members to the state added that the scheme since Inception has continued to promote unity, youth empowerment, and development across all sectors of the nation.

He charged the corps members to embrace the NYSC opportunity with sincerity and patriotism adding that the orientation course is designed to instill in them the values of discipline, resilience, leadership, and teamwork, qualities that will shape their contributions during and beyond your service year.

“As you begin this vital journey of service to the fatherland, I urge you to embrace this opportunity with sincerity and patriotism. The Orientation Course is designed to instill in you the values of discipline, resilience, leadership, and teamwork, qualities that will shape your contributions during and beyond your service year.

“The Orientation Course is a vital platform for physical and mental development. I urge you therefore, dear Corps Members, to make the most of the Orientation Course. Embrace the training, be open to learning, and allow yourselves to be shaped into responsible and patriotic citizens,” the governor said.

While charging the corps members to be law-abiding, respectful to their hosts, and purposeful in their service, Governor Adeleke assured that his administration will collaborate with the NYSC to ensure their welfare and safety in the state.

“Make a positive impact in your places of Primary Assignment and leave lasting footprints wherever you go. Let me assure you that the Osun State Government will continue to collaborate with the NYSC Scheme to ensure your welfare and security in the State.”

In his introductory address, NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim warned corps members against sharing unauthorised content capable of breaching security and undermine the integrity of the orientation programme.

He urged them to use their social media presence reflect creativity, decency, and values that promote peace, unity, and progress.

“In this digital age, the social media has become a powerful tool for expression and engagement. However, I strongly caution you to use social media responsibly. Avoid posting sensitive camp activities or internal protocols online under the guise of content creation. The Camp is a regimented environment, and discipline remains a core principle of the NYSC Scheme.

“Instead, let your social media presence reflect creativity, decency, and values that promote peace, unity, and progress. Be ambassadors of the Scheme both online and offline. Be ambassadors of the Scheme both online and offline.”

The Osun NYSC boss also emphasised that the orientation camp remained a place of purposeful training and not a vacation resort.

“Punctuality, participation, and respect for camp rules and officials are non-negotiable. We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline, and we expect full cooperation from every Corps Member.

“It is pertinent to note that there are several awards and recognitions available during your service year. These include: Commendation letters, the State Honours Award and the Presidential Honours Award. To qualify for these awards, you must demonstrate exceptional dedication, discipline, impactful contributions to your host communities, and outstanding performance in your place of Primary Assignment. Let excellence be your watchword,” he concluded.

A total number of 1328 corps members comprising of 705 males and 623 females were deployed to Osun State while 1182 were dislodged from Lagos State.
