The 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Rivers State have been charged to be responsible and patriotic throughout their service year.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, gave this charge while addressing the Corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of the state.
He enjoined the Corps members to be disciplined in all their endeavours and to respect the culture, traditions, customs, norms, and values of the people in their host communities.
Brigadier General Ahmed urged the Corps members to add value to their host communities by initiating and executing viable Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would positively impact people’s lives.

He appealed to the Corps members to take seriously the issues relating to their personal security, skill acquisition, and mental capacity building, which were covered in a series of lectures.
Brigadier General Ahmed concluded by urging them to avoid travelling without permission, to avoid travelling at night if travel is necessary, to obey the NYSC dress code, and to maintain a clean environment at all times.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator for Rivers State, Mr George Mfongang, informed the Director General that a total of 1,800 Corps members had registered.
He commended the Corps members for their outstanding performance since arriving at the camp, especially their active participation in all camp programmes and activities.
General Ahmed was accompanied on the visit by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Chief Eddy Megwa, and the Deputy Director of Special Duties, Mr Nura Umar.
