Anambra Governorship aspirant under the Labour Party platform, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, has expressed reservations over the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s readiness to combat the various security lapses presently being recorded in Anambra State.
In a public statement released in Awka yesterday, Nwosu noted that ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, Anambra indigenes outside the state and in the diaspora are already expressing grave concerns about coming home for the holidays.
He said their trepidation was quite understandable, given the prevailing level of insecurity in the state.
According to him, with Anambra State lacking a forensic laboratory, data bank, tracking devices, and an institutional framework for holistic security, it is difficult to believe the State Government’s avowed readiness to combat crime and insecurity.
Nwosu stated that to ensure optimal state security, the environment must be dominated by a visible presence of security operatives in both static and mobile formations.
“This is not happening. I have already made it public that when we come to power in 2025, security will be our top priority, and we will visibly and proactively protect lives and property,” he stated.
On the abduction of Jude Nnam, a renowned music composer and one of Nigeria’s best songwriters, near Umunnachi town, Nwosu called on the Anambra State Government and its security agencies to be more proactive in securing the state and fulfilling their primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
“Anambra has regrettably become a playground for these criminal elements due to a lack of robust policing in the state,” he lamented.
