The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command and the Nigerian Immigration Service in Anambra are seeking collaboration to stem the tide of illegal migration and human trafficking across the state.
The Anambra State Commandant, NSCDC, Olatunde Maku, made the call when he received the new Comptroller of Immigration Service, Anambra State Command, Dr G.O Nwoke at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka.
This is according to a press statement issued by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Okadigbo Edwin, on Thursday.
The NSCDC boss assured that the command would continue to support the Nigerian Immigration Service in the fight against irregular migration and other forms of trans-border crimes in the state.
He acknowledged the synergy and cooperation between the NSCDC and the Nigerian Immigration Service and sued for more such collaborations to fight criminality to the barest minimum.
The Comptroller of Immigration Service, Dr. G.O Nwoke, appreciated the NSCDC State Commandant for the warmth reception accorded her, adding that the visit was in line with her desire to align with existing protocols, familiarise and strengthen the inter-agency synergy between the two agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
Acknowledging the need for a strong working relationship between the two agencies of government, the CIS further posited that the security challenges within the county call for the closing of ranks among all the security agencies as no agency can do it alone.
“When we talk of the movement of people, the Immigration Service is the first point of contact that a traveller can meet in any country of the world. We have been trained to know foreigners as soon as we see them.
“With my coming into Anambra by the Special grace of God, I believe that we are going to work as a team, there is no point for two sisters to fight, we are a family.
“We should work to fish out all these immigrants coming in from other countries to cause insecurity in our country and repatriate them to their various countries,” Nwoke said.
Nwoke noted that such collaboration was necessary as it would bring about improved security and safety in the state.
The highlights of the visit were the exchange of souvenirs, signing of courtesy visit register and group photograph.
