The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has reiterated his commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCOS) to bolster security within custodial centres and across the nation’s capital.
This assurance was conveyed on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the new FCT Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Ajibogun Olatubosun, to the NSCDC Command headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi, made this known in a statement released after the visit.
Dr Odumosu stressed the need for continuous cooperation between the two agencies, noting that their mandates are complementary and vital to the overall safety of FCT residents and the protection of key national assets, including correctional facilities.
“Our work is intertwined, and the two agencies need each other to fulfil the mandate for which we were established,” he said. “We must work hand in gloves, put behind unhealthy rivalries, and pursue our shared goal of delivering people-oriented security.”

Highlighting the NSCDC’s current involvement, the Commandant pointed out that a gun truck from the Corps is currently stationed at one of the correctional centres in the FCT, underscoring the Corps’ active support and commitment to the protection of custodial facilities and the prevention of external attacks.
He reaffirmed that NSCDC personnel remain on 24-hour surveillance duty, with covert officers actively gathering intelligence. “We are ready to share credible intelligence with you whenever necessary,” he assured.
Dr Odumosu further pledged continued collaboration and peaceful coexistence between the agencies, stating that his ultimate aim is to ensure FCT residents enjoy security and peace of mind, made possible by effective synergy among security stakeholders.
In response, Controller Ajibogun Olatubosun expressed appreciation for the warm reception and noted that his visit aimed to tap into the expertise and operational strength of the NSCDC for enhanced service delivery in the FCT.
He emphasised that since both agencies operate under the same ministry, collaboration is not only necessary but non-negotiable. “The NCOS is fully committed to working together at all times on security matters,” he said.
Olatubosun also commended the NSCDC for its readiness to share intelligence and deepen joint operations, stating that such collaboration would significantly reduce the likelihood of security breaches at correctional facilities.
