Following the fallout at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) quarterly meeting, the Northern Obidients Youth Assembly (NOYA) has alleged that the Commission is already working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain power in 2027.
Recall that the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, was barred from participating in the quarterly consultative meeting between INEC and leaders of political parties.
INEC reportedly cited the current crisis in the Labour Party as a reason for barring Labour Party National Chairman Bar Julius Abure from attending a meeting meant for the Commission and political parties’ leaders.
The group said there should be a reason why the Labour Party was singled out when there are more contentious crises going on in the APC, PDP, and other invited political parties.
The National Chairman of the Northern Obidients Youth Assembly, Hussaini Murkhtar, in a statement, accused INEC of plans to truncate democracy.
Murkhtar stated that currently, there are crises in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with members not being able to agree on a date for their NEC meeting; the All Progressives Congress (APC) has a clash with an attempt to remove its National Chairman recently in Abuja; but INEC singled out the Labour Party to intimidate for having a crisis that is currently being managed by the party leadership.
The group, however, alleged that INEC under Professor Yakubu was the singular reason why most Nigerians are suffering today.
They propose that the hunger strike should include a demand for the immediate removal of Professor Yakubu if Nigerians want a better country in 2027.
“It was a show of shame for Professor Yakubu-led INEC to allow itself to be used as a political tool to serve the selfish interests of criminal politicians who are bent on milking Nigerians dry and clinging to power as if it’s their birthright.
“It is obvious that INEC and APC are working together to continue enslaving Nigerians with poverty and bad governance. No wonder they are afraid of youths protesting against the government.
“The card INEC is playing is a dangerous one, and it is inimical to our democracy because in a situation where an electoral body will become partisan, the hope of the country is lost, and bad governance will continue to prevail,” Murkhtar noted.
He, however, called for the immediate sack and prosecution of the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, over his alleged collusion with the APC and compromising the future of Nigeria.
“Professor Mahmood Yakubu has no business being the Chairman of INEC after the shameful outing in 2023. He should resign and formally join the APC and stop hiding under the cover of the Commission to perpetrate evil.”
The Northern Obidients urged Nigerians to be vigilant and focus on INEC as they are allegedly making efforts to compromise the electoral process in favour of the APC, which he said will increase the suffering of the masses, especially in the North.
“There is huge hunger in the land, and INEC is already scheming for APC to retain power in 2027. This will be a calamity for Nigerians and the economy. Imagine the suffering we are in today and the one we will face if the failed APC continues in power beyond 2027.
“Nigerians are wiser now; nobody enjoys suffering. As APC and INEC are planning to rig the election in 2027, the masses impoverished by the unproductive policies of this government will not sit down and watch their future mortgaged by the same persons that brought untold hardship on them,” Murkhtar added.
