The chief of the Indigenous Folks of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on Monday lamented the delay in transmitting his case file from the Supreme Courtroom to the Abuja Federal Excessive Courtroom.
In December 2023, the Supreme Courtroom had upturned the Attraction Courtroom ruling that squashed all terrorism prices in opposition to Kanu.
Consequently, the Supreme Courtroom ordered the subordinate court docket to return to the Federal Excessive Courtroom.
However, Kanu lamented the lack to ahead his case file to the Federal Excessive Courtroom.
The IPOB chief disclosed this throughout his routine assembly together with his authorized staff led by his Particular Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor on the Division of State Providers, DSS, facility in Abuja on Monday.
An announcement by Ejimakor reads: “Throughout my routine visitation with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu right this moment (eighth January 2024) on the DSS in Abuja, our dialogue centered primarily on the persisting failure of the Supreme Courtroom to enroll its fifteenth December 2023 judgment on Kanu’s case and transmission of the case file to the Federal Excessive Courtroom, as was ordered by the court docket on stated fifteenth December.
“This delay is uncommon and thus unacceptable to Mazi Kanu and he strongly condemns it.
“In a case the place Kanu has been in detention (for 2 and half years) and it’s in public and judicial data that he’s grievously unwell, one would anticipate that it shouldn’t take virtually one month to certify the judgment and transmit the case file to the Federal Excessive Courtroom. And from what we’re listening to, it would as nicely take over a month.
“Distinction this with election petition circumstances the place judgments are readied and licensed in as little as a day or two and made accessible to events.
“Specifically, given the truth that Kanu’s case can not go ahead with out his case file being bodily transmitted to the Federal Excessive Courtroom and the judgment thereof licensed, any prolongation of taking these steps turns into legally injurious to Kanu, as he continues to be detained with none instant prospects of trial and exoneration.
“We strongly urge the judicial and administrative management of the Supreme Courtroom to take immediate steps to transmit Kanu’s file to the Federal Excessive Courtroom and make licensed true copies of the judgment accessible to his Legal professionals. That is what the justice of the case calls for at this time limit.”
